Boredoms did this in NYC on 7/7/7 - check out this video form Viva Radio!

August 8th, 2008 (8/8/08), Nike Sportwear will present Boredoms' 88BoaDrum, an unprecedented aural and visual experience, on the same day in Los Angeles and New York City.

Boredoms, the seminal Japanese noise band, will build on their legendary and lauded reputation for mesmerizing sound installations by hosting 88BoaDrum in Los Angeles on 8.8.08. Commencing at precisely 8:08 PM PST the 88- minute experience at the historic La Brea Tar Pits will feature 88 drummers selected by Boredoms and 88BoaDrum artistic director, Hisham Bharoocha of Soft Circle [formerly of Lightning Bolt and Black Dice].

88BoaDrum in New York City will take place at 8:08 PM EST, conducted on behalf of Boredoms by Brooklyn's Gang Gang Dance and organized by music director Ryan Sawyer (Tall Firs). Set on the Williamsburg Waterfront, 88 drummers will perform the same 88-minute piece, newly composed by Eye of Boredoms and interpreted by Gang Gang Dance.

Drummers for the LA performance include Butchy Fuego (Pit Er Pat), John Colpitts (Oneida), Christopher Powell (Man Man), Tim Soete (The Fucking Champs), Sara Lund (Unwound), Rob Barber (High Places), Patty Schemel (Hole), Kevin Haskins (Bauhaus), Taylor Richardson (Sunburned Hand of the Man) and many more.

88BoaDrum is the natural evolution of 77BoaDrum, one of the most talked about and critically celebrated music events of the past years. The original event took place in Brooklyn Bridge Park, where Boredoms and 74 other hand-selected drummers from the far reaches of the underground brought life to Boredoms' monumental vision through an original 77-minute composition.

Not long after the original event, in April of 2008, the first NEW edition in eight years to the SUPER ROOTS series, Super Roots 9, finally received a worldwide release on Thrill Jockey Records. Super Roots 9 is a recording of a live show in Japan on Christmas Eve 2004 and features Boredoms alongside a 20-person choir. This FIRST official live recording is a 40-minute tantalizing sonic portrait of the raw power of the band and a glimpse at what's in store for 88BoaDrum.

Both of these events will be free and open to the public. Tickets are required for entry and are available on first-come-first-served basis starting Friday, July 18th from www.brownpapertickets.com, Amoeba Records and the Los Angeles County Museum of Arts (88BoaDrum Ð LA) and Other Music and Sound Fix Records (88BoaDrum Ð NYC). These grand events have been made possible by Nike Sportswear and are being produced by JellyNYC. Nike will also be commemorating the event with a very special Nike Sportswear NSW Tee collection. The NSW Tee's will be hand-screened at each location with an original graphic of choice including designs created by Eye from Boredoms. TICKETS AVAILABLE! TICKETS WILL BE RELEASED TODAY (7/28) AT 1PM (PST).
